Profile

Mark is recognised as one of the region’s leading insurance and reinsurance dispute resolution lawyers. He has been in international practice in Singapore for nearly 25 years and advises insurers and reinsurers on coverage issues and disputes involving high value and complex property, construction, energy, political violence/terrorism and associated business interruption claims.

Mark’s construction insurance practice specialises in CAR/EAR/DSU as well as TPL claims often involving major market losses and large assets in jurisdictions primarily across Asia Pacific and the Middle East. He also has a strong focus on losses in the power generation (gas/coal/hydro/geothermal/wind/solar) and energy (onshore/offshore) sectors.

Mark’s broader experience includes handling numerous political violence and terrorism claims across Asia, and acting as coordinating counsel on subrogated recoveries globally arising out of power generation and large commercial property losses. Many claims Mark works on have a reinsurance element where he regularly advises on treaty as well as facultative disputes.

Mark is often the first to be appointed on high profile, high value and technically complex market losses. He is consistently able to resolve the large majority of claims without litigation through the provision of sensible and realistic advice, open negotiation and skilled mediation.

Mark has been ranked as a Band 1 Insurance lawyer by Chambers Asia-Pacific for the last 13 years, and is recognised by The Legal 500 as a Leading Individual for Insurance. He is also listed in Euromoney’s prestigious “Best of the Best Global” Guide as one of the world’s top insurance and reinsurance practitioners, and recommended in Who’s Who Legal for Insurance & Reinsurance in Singapore.

You do not often find a senior lawyer with such a balanced knowledge and background between the East and the West, as well as a good understanding of the intricate ways of how the insurance markets work in different geographical areas.
