Deniz Perkowski

Deniz is an associate in the Los Angeles office. She holds bar admissions in New York and Türkiye since 2020, and California since 2022. Prior to joining Kennedys, she gained experience at a nationwide insurance defense law firm in Los Angeles, and a boutique law firm specializing in maritime law in Long Beach. Deniz’s practice concentrates on admiralty and maritime, railway and land-based cargo claims, subrogation, insurance coverage and civil defense litigation.

Before enrolling in Tulane Law School’s renowned LL.M. program in Admiralty and Maritime law with a merit based scholarship, Deniz completed a mandatory one-year internship in Istanbul, Türkiye, at the Courthouses of Istanbul and a legal-500 law firm representing American corporations. During her LL.M., she contributed pro bono work at City Attorney’s Office in New Orleans, engaged with the university’s athletics departments, and served as the Treasure and LL.M. representative of the Law Fund and Reunions Organization.  

A highlight of her master’s program was participating in a thesis seminar with the esteemed Robert Force and drafting a paper on admiralty jurisdiction in multimodal transportation. Additionally, she obtained a certificate from the Delgado Maritime and Industrial Training Center to enhance her studies in the field.

Throughout her career in the United States, Deniz represented terminal owners and operators, trucking companies, Protection and Indemnity (P&I) Clubs, boat owners, and insurance companies in litigation and coverage matters. She actively participates in professional organizations including the Maritime Law Association of the United States, the Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA), the Longshore Claims Association and the International Propeller Club.

Deniz is proficient in Turkish, has intermediate proficiency in Russian, and is fluent in Azerbaijani.
