Rob Stevenson is an associate in Kennedys’ London office. Rob acts for (re)insurer clients on complex coverage disputes, many of which have an international element and involve amounts in excess of £50m. Rob focuses on coverage disputes involving Bermuda Form, Excess Liability, Public/Products Liability, and Reinsurance policies. Rob has particular experience in relation to coverage disputes arising out of mass tort litigation in the US, in which the underlying judgments/settlements often exceed $1bn.
Rob’s recent experience has included acting for (re)insurers on coverage disputes in relation to: liabilities in excess of $20bn arising out of the US opioid epidemic; liabilities in excess of $1bn arising from a South American construction and engineering dispute; business interruption claims arising out of the COVID-19 pandemic in the UK, US and Australia; sports-related concussion claims; facultative reinsurance claims brought by a local government mutual insurer; and treaty reinsurance claims arising out of the issuance of surety bonds.
During his training contract, Rob spent six months on a full-time secondment to the in-house litigation team at a global insurer, where he gained experience in advising clients on coverage issues and policy wordings across all lines of business.
