Jonathan is a Senior Associate based in Kennedys’ Birmingham office.  He qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales in 2014.

Jonathan advises a range of professional clients from the legal, construction and insurance industries in the defence of claims and regulatory investigations.

Jonathan regularly represents professional clients in matters before the High Court and has also advised on matters before the Court of Appeal.  He has advised some of the largest and best known construction contractors and professional firms in the UK on a range of complex and high value matters.  He has also advised and acted for Top 20 law firms and insurance brokers in the defence of claims.

He also advises insurers on the application of financial lines and D&O policies in particular and has acted for parties

Jonathan has extensive experience advising clients in disputes through various forums, including;

  • Advising D&C Contractors, Surveyors and Architects in litigated proceedings, Adjudication and Expert Determination proceedings;
  • Advising professional clients in regulatory matters before the ARB, RIBA and SRA disciplinary tribunals;
  • Advising sporting and professional membership bodies on claims and regulatory complaints from their members and third parties; and
  • Advising insurers in Arbitration proceedings arising out of disputes concerning the application of financial lines policies

  • Advised a major construction company in claims concerning alleged defects in design and fire safety in construction linked to a fire at a University halls
  • Advised D&C contractors in proceedings alleging defective design and failures in fire safety and Building Regulations compliance at a residential apartment block – Orchard Plaza Management Company Ltd v Balfour Beatty Regional Construction Ltd [2022] EWHC 1490 (TCC)
  • Advised a major energy consultancy in Expert Determination proceedings concerning alleged breaches of an energy management agreement at a large manufacturing plant
  • Acting for PII insurers in policy arbitration proceedings brought by an insured D&C contractor concerning the application of policy exclusions
  • Advised London market insurers on a coverage dispute with a major construction company concerning notification of a £25m claim relating to an explosion at a power plant
  • Successfully defended a  novel property fraud claim against a firm of solicitors in Bakrania & Anor v Shah & Others [2019] EWHC 949 (Ch)
  • Advised specialist nominee and secretarial companies owned by a firm of solicitors in a claim concerning alleged £40m theft from an offshore Trust
  • Advised insurance brokers in a £12million claim concerning failure to advise on the meaning of a basis clause in a commercial policy
  • Advised Insurers in large scale coverage investigations into dishonesty at a firm of solicitors, including policy arbitrations on dishonesty and year of allocation disputes and claims under the Third Parties (Rights Against Insurers) Act 2010
